To achieve a level 4 (A grade) i need to make my magazine look professional, and realistic to do this i need to concentrate on my target audience at all times thinking about language, colour, images and layout all of this has to relate to my target audience as mine is for predominately females from the age of 14- 25 so feminine colours such as pastel colours including pinks, purples would best suit and bold contrasting colours such as black blue and red wouldn't suit my target audience. The genre of my magazine is also very important as that also effects everything in the making of my magazine the genre for my magazine is a pop magazine i want to to be similar to the 'xfactor magazine'. My surveys will also be a major help in the production of my magazine i will follow these closely to make sure I'm following what my target audience want.
From the start of the production of my magazine i will use my own knowledge of technical media terms to perfect my magazine such as the route of the eye and principle of thirds to make sure the basics are done well. i will use my research of other magazine's closely to make sure I'm on the right lines.
I think the two magazines i looked at achieved a level 4 because their images were clear and fitted in with the genre's the language fitted in well the magazines genre, the front cover to 'drowned insound' was cluttered which i think is effective for an indie type magazine as it looks busy and full which follow the high beat of an indie band. The other magazine 'Supremacy' was also very good the eyes of the image were very significant they stood and out and draw the reader in, this magazine was more ordered both looked very professional. An improvement for the both would be to include maybe more than one image to attract more people or to include more cover lines.
To achieve a level 4 i need to
- use mise en scene to appeal to the audience and make the magazine look professional
- Edit my photos to make them look professional
- Take effective photos using a range of shot types
-Have a clear understanding of different magazine conventions and incorporate it into my magazine threw language, layout etc.
- Use a wide variety of colours, fonts, images.
