Audience research

For my audience research im looking at the NME music magazine, the type of music magazine is similar to the product i want to make so this research will be useful.NME is published by a well known UK magazine publisher called ipc media who also publish magazine such as womes 'look', and lad mag ' nuts'. Ipc is owned by another publishing company called 'Time inc' this publisher is also owned by 'Time Warner' and these are the worlds second largest entertainment conglomerate.

The ipc website provide a link to NME media pack, this shows stats, informaation on the magazine and most importantly to me shows who the target audience is meaning i can focus on that.

NME is not only a magazine it has expanded over the years and has become its own unique multi-platform media proposition, they have their own website, music events, music award events, NMETV, NME Radio they have over one million fans every week. The magazine is published weekly and gives the best music coverage of a wide variety but focusing on 'indie' the weekly magazine includes reviews, coverages of festivals, comments on music, intiviews.

This media pack includes important information for the magazine and i would presume its used regually to ensure the continuous growth in the intrest and success of the magazine.  From this pack i have learned that NME's target audience is mainly men but they have relaxed theme, colours and content making it suitable for both genders. Majorty of NME's readers are men and also amf students and the median age is 23 but the age varies from 18-25 from my own knowledge i know that a significant of 16+ teens also read NME.

50% of  NME  readers are students and almost 70% being ABC1  this explains the smart, sophisticated nature and layout of the magazine. NME include several advertisements some of these include clothes, food,cars, gadgets each one appealing at a diferent target audience bringing in more readers and more sales. 


This research is going to help me with my music magazine asi know i have to include things that will relate to the target audience and also fit in with my genre this will help grab attention adn keep the attention.My double page spread is going to have to be something different, to make the audience intrested so it has to be seen and advertised as new and exclusive but then they have to be able to relate to it, i need to make sure my images realte to the audience to make it realistic and kepp the target audience intrested.
